The University Hospital Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization established by an Act of Alberta Legislature in 1962. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees who, along with staff, is committed to managing all charitable gifts with utmost responsibility and care.
Funds raised through the University Hospital Foundation add to government funding and provide a critical advantage in helping the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute advance their positions as world leaders in specialized and complex care.
Donor gifts and community support contribute greatly to ensuring that patients at these facilities will benefit from innovative patient care programs, the latest advancements in medical technology, breakthrough research and world-renowned education for health care professionals.
We are very grateful to our generous donors whose gifts make a difference to the lives of patients – every day. We are also deeply grateful to the many volunteers and community leaders who contribute their time and talent to the University Hospital Foundation.
Supporting the University of Alberta Hospital
As a leading medical facility and referral centre, the University of Alberta Hospital requires the most advanced patient care programs and technology to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions. We must also compete in attracting and retaining top medical professionals and researchers.
In the past 10 years, the Foundation has raised nearly $81 million (net) to support a diverse range of priority projects at the University of Alberta Hospital.
These funds are generated through our annual campaign, special events such as the Festival of Trees and the Full House Lottery, as well as through donor designated gifts and endowment funds.
Supporting the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute
The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, to be completed in 2009, will serve as a referral centre for complex cardiac care for both adults and children. It will bring together world-renowned cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac care professionals, researchers and educators with the most advanced technology and treatments available.
To date, the University Hospital Foundation campaign for the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, chaired by Bill Comrie, has raised over $47 million.
Continued community support is helping to ensure that this cardiac centre will have the best resources and technology needed to attract and retain some of the world's most renowned cardiac specialists and researchers.
