The University Hospital Foundation raises funds to support innovation and excellence at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Canada. And Alberta is taking aim with the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute which opened to patients in July 2009.

This new Heart Institute, the first of its kind in Western Canada, provides complex cardiac care for people from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Canada's North. It is also the only Canadian centre where both adult and pediatric cardiac patients are cared for under one roof.

Fully integrated into the University of Alberta Hospital, the Heart Institute provides a range of acute cardiac care including prevention, diagnostics and treatment.

The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute brings together world-renowned cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac care professionals, researchers and educators with the most advanced technology available. In addition to providing complex cardiac care, the Heart Institute also has a major focus on research. And it is the training ground for cardiac leaders of tomorrow.
