Northern Alberta Renal Program
Providing complete renal care
The University of Alberta Hospital is home to the Northern Alberta Renal Program (NARP) - the longest running renal program in Canada. This program serves over 4500 patients, including over 900 dialysis patients from northern and central Alberta. It also provides consultation services in northeastern B.C. and the Northwest Territories.
This program provides complete renal care - from prevention to kidney transplants, to hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.
Hemodialysis can be offered on an impatient basis. Outpatient dialysis is offered through local or satellite dialysis units. NARP also has a mobile dialysis unit (bus) with six dialysis stations to serve patients in remote locations.
The University Hospital Foundation is currently raising funds for:
- 15 additional home hemodialysis machines to allow more patients to dialyze from home, freeing them to carry on with daily activities
- In-hospital dialysis machines for critically care patients requiring dialysis
