Karen Hamilton of Taber, Alberta knows what it's like to be told she needs a transplant to survive. The mother of young twin daughters received a life-saving double lung transplant in 2013.

Karen was on hand along with Economic Development and Trade Minister Deron Bilous at the announcement on October 26, 2016 of a three way partnership with Astellas Pharma Canada, the Government of Alberta and the University Hospital Foundation. The $1.2 million dollar Alberta Transplant Innovation Fund (ATIF) will accelerate transplant research and innovation in Canada and have direct and tangible impact on many Albertans waiting for organ transplantation.

"Alberta is nationally and globally recognized for its expertise in organ transplant research, innovation and patient care. The legacy this collaboration creates is a knowledge-based Alberta economy and a healthier, higher-quality of life for Alberta familiars." says Deron Bilous, Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
