The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute is a world leader in complex cardiac care and surgery and is the busiest heart and heart-lung transplant centre in Canada.
State-of-the-art technology in five digital operating rooms provides surgical staff with increased access to diagnostic images and other vital patient information right in the operating room. Digital technology can also project live surgical procedures to viewing screens in the Shaw 3-I Auditorium within the heart institute, providing health care professionals an opportunity to learn from real-life surgical procedures in real-time.
The Foundation is currently raising funds for a specially-equipped hybrid operating room. This will enable cardiac teams including a cardiologist, surgeon and interventional radiologist to work together in treating complex cardiac conditions with less invasive procedures. This will significantly advance care, while reducing risk and recovery time for patients.
