Brain Sciences Program

The University of Alberta Hospital is home to one of North America's leading brain sciences programs that offers many specialized inpatient and outpatient services. The health care teams in the Brain Sciences Program provide comprehensive medical and surgical care to patients who have experienced disease or injury to the brain and spinal cord.

The University Hospital is also home to Canada's only stand-alone neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where dedicated staff provide specialized care to over 650 patients each year. These patients may have spinal cord injuries, brain injuries due to trauma or stroke as well as other serious conditions that require close monitoring and specialized care.

The University Hospital has several specialized outpatient clinics including the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Clinic, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic, Comprehensive Epilepsy Program and Stroke Prevention Clinic.
